Supper with Bob

Bob finally visited me for supper, while down here, in SA ! Long overdue event, and forever planned. We had a ball and he really loved my wines. I thought he had lost few pounds with this new diet, he confirmed.

Now its my turn - have an open invite already .. I

Selected Oils, 1984 - 1987

Unfortunately Google completely screws up the colours on upload - the reds in particular + is lifting the shadows on selected images, which is totally unacceptable, i have subsequently removed the images !

So, i started a blog on wordpress, which i intend to use for art and online exhibiting of art .. I might eventually move the current blog there, especially if colors are again and repeatedly messed up by Google ..

Have a look here

Lumiere d'ete

Couldn't help it but share these few OOC shots .. Way too excited with the new Pentax - these are few quick shots from around the place ..

No processing of any sort .. 0, nada, nishto be, nishto - straight OOC and largish sizes here - for you to see what this MX-1 can do - I'm still discovering and learning this camera with a big smile plastered on my face ..

I hope that summer is finally here to stay .. no rain and major thunder / hail today, unreal !

To you - in the snow - i feel for you .. you can all come here with your families or alone, and we can do it like in the 60s. Names withheld for no particular reason ..

Norman Catherine

I'd like to humbly present to you, preview for you rather, one of the most amazing and inspiring contemporary SA artists, Mr Norman Catherine !

Presently still (?) at Everard Read in Rosebank, he has an exhibit, which could make you wonder and turn and leave, or, as in my case - sit, watch, walk, come back, while counting "the losses" if i toss a few tens of 000s for virtually any work displayed there ..

Firmly decide to go back in the studio and get to work. Recall the humble man and great artist, Karl introduced me to one night in a Hollard event, years back. Take few shots to take with me to see in late at night.

And if i have to wrap it all up, in a single sentence, this has to be : A magical minimalism , one of a very special kind, which not only provokes questions and thoughts from our darker side, but also opens wide the flood gates of the subconscious.

Go see for yourself ..

Camera : Leica Minilux, handheld. Film : Lomography Chrome X-Pro 100.

Smiling ? Happy you came to visit this blog ? OK .. go here then ..

Vienna in November

Most certainly one of the wrong months in the year for this amazing city, yet, it proved quite fruitful from photographic standpoint. Wasn't the easiest of shoots at -1 to -3 C and first (wet) snow falling, and i dressed in a short jacket with the shale forgotten in the hotel, yet, it was amongst the biggest funs i had since the 2nd or was it the 3rd visit - to Bergsig !

So here are the technical details .. 3 films were used in the shots below : AGFA Photo CT Precisa 100 (fresh), Provia 400X (fresh) and Reala 100 - expired by 2 years .. Needless to say and preempting already - my fav shots are certainly those with the Reala 100, the "medieval" once ..

All films in a Nikon 28 Ti. A bunch of shots were taken with the newly acquired Pentax MX-1 compact digital, which only impresses so far .. The Nikon refused to switch off and retract the lens at some point in the cold and i had a heart-sinking moment for a few seconds, but then it eventually woke up and shut and started ;-)

Finally i like shooting expired Reala at EV-1, after disastrous results at EV0or EV+1 - but this could have been me too .. The AGFA was shot either at EV+1 or EV0, following recommendations to pull this film, and the Provia 400X - at box speed - i get best results with it when shooting it uncorrected. All scans below a very slightly processed for exposure in certain cases, and sharpened for here. Scanned using Canon 9000F

On to the images : a mixed bag of street and Stephanplatz and surroundings, a sneak peak  into Stadtpark - all in all a fraction of what can be seen in this wonderful city !

In the heart of "medieval" Vienna please !

Stadtpark .. A lovely small park very close to the city centre .. Agfa CT Precisa ..

Finally, the pleasure to use the owner of a delightful digital output - the Pentax MX-1 .. All images below were taken handheld, no support .. It has its value and convenience in processing - both from cost as well as speed pov, yet, I'm constantly drawn back to film, to the Provia 400X in particular
